LAHORE (Friday, April 15, 2011): Managing Director (MD) of a private company has banned the entry of five office-bearers of a workers union to a department of the City District Government of Lahore.

A ‘public notice’ placed at prominent places at all offices of the Solid Waste Management wing of the CDGL ‘strictly prohibits’ the entry of Sweepers Union President Mushtaq Aasi, vicepresidents Pervaiz Labha and Sardar Bahadar, secretary-general Mushtaq Nagi and union’s women’s wing president Riaz Bibi to all offices, including field camps of the SWM wing.
“Since these persons are involved in uncalled for activities, fanning religious hatred and corrupt practices, their entry to all offices under the control of the solid waste management, workshops, office of the district officer (planning), ADO (sanitation) field office, motor vehicle inspector, chief sanitary inspector, sanitary supervisor and the main office at Jain Mandir is strictly prohibited.
“Legal proceedings will be initiated against the official concerned in case any of them is found in any office or field camp. The man incharge/official concerned should immediately intimate the admin office in black and white if any of them attempts to force his entry into any such premises.
“By the order of the managing director, Lahore Waste Management Company,” reads the notice.
The LWMC was registered under Section 42 of the Companies Ordinance 1984 as a private entity last year. Though the company was established with the aim to serve the purpose of public interest by providing sanitation facilities to Lahorites without earning profit, it has been borrowing money from the Punjab government in violation of rules.
In October last year, the cash-starved Punjab government provided Rs30 million loan to LWMC for its non-development expenditure and that too without settling terms and conditions regarding interest rate and schedule of return of the borrowed money. The company acquired 600 square feet office at Egerton Road at Rs0.5 million rent a month. Interestingly, the company already had offices at Jinnah Hall, DCO office and at Jain Mandir. After taking another office on rent, the company now has four offices in the city.
